

You may want to get lost in the magnificent Eden of the Pamplemousses Gardens. Situated in the North of Mauritius, you may be forgiven for being a child in this storybook of settings. It’s almost pre historic and surreal with its breathtaking variety of flora and creatures great and small. This Grand Dame of Gardens was re named in 1988 in remembrance to Sir Seewoosagure Ramgoolam who led the island to independence.
Enter the elaborate main gate to a naturalistic dynasty, and make sure every wrong turn is one you’ll remember. Don’t rush. Giant water lilies and Lotus ponds mesmerize. Take a stroll down The Poivre Avenue, named after Pierre Poi, the famous French Botanist, and marvel at the enormous and majestic palm trees ushering one to even greener pastures in this once in a life time excursion. These are just one of a few avenues which you will find that has been christened after its namesakes who have made their mark in this divine discovery.
Due to the diversity of explorers and curious adventurers, the Garden has a diversity of features. The looming Mon Plaisir House is just one such colonial structure amidst the old trees guarding this architectural wonder. Seek and find the Sacred Fig Tree and the actual pamplemousses fruit, the citrus offspring imported from Dutch origins. Even the not so noblest of creatures have their kingdom within the Gardens, such as the geckos and the tortoise. So be warned, you are not alone!
